หมายถึงน. กรรมวิธีที่ให้ความร้อนสูงแก่สารอินทรีย์โดยไม่ให้อากาศเข้า เพื่อให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงทางเคมีขึ้นแก่สารนั้น ให้ผลเป็นสารที่ระเหยได้และแยกตัวออกมา เช่น การกลั่นทำลายขี้เลื่อย ให้ผลเป็นเมทิลแอลกอฮอล์ กรดนํ้าส้ม และสารอื่นอีก, การกลั่นทำลายถ่านหิน ให้ผลเป็นแก๊สถ่านหินที่ใช้เป็นเชื้อเพลิงได้ นํ้ามันเบนซิน ลูกเหม็นกันแมลงสาบ และสารอื่นที่มีประโยชน์อีกมาก กากที่เหลือเรียกว่า ถ่านโค้ก. (อ. destructive distillation).
Beryllium Copper
แปลว่า(english) An alloy of copper and 2-3% beryllium with optionally fractional percentages of nickel or cobalt. Alloys of this series show remarkable age-hardening properties and an ultimate hardness of about 400 Brinell (Rockwell C43). Because of such hardness and good electrical conductivity, beryllium-copper is used in electrical switches, springs, etc.
